The dictionary meaning of a bibliophile is someone who loves (and usually collects) books. Bibliophile South Asia publishes academic and general texts in social sciences and humanities and is in the process of developing a good fiction list.

Chicken Neck is an imprint of Bibliophile South Asia that publishes books on the cultures and politics of North East India. Its objective is to promote informed discussions and to intervene in a way that would help initiate debates on how this rich cultural wealth can be used to develop the Region and protect it from negative aspects of globalization. Chicken Neck strives to be a bridge for creating a better understanding between the peoples living in the North East Region and the rest of India.

Senior publishing professional and Indian book trade expert with over four decades of experience.
Founded Promilla & Co., Publishers in 1970 along with his father Professor D.H. Butani (1913-1989), eminent scholar, economist and writer, with an idea to encourage publication of high quality scholarly works. Promilla imprints were accepted as authoritative writings in the areas they covered in the international market.
Founded Bibliophile South Asia in 2002, which has been publishing books on a wide range of subjects. He has also collaborated for publishing with reputed academic and research organizations all over India.
After almost another decated, in 2011, he decided to put his four decades of expertise as a publishing professional in yet another publishing venture christened “Chicken Neck” — an imprint of Bibliophile South Asia — committed to publications on north-east India.
Worked with the U.S. Library of Congress Office, New Delhi for over 30 years and retired as LC's Chief, Acquisitions (South Asia) in 2002. In addition to Library of Congress, he also looked after acquisition of publications of over 40 research libraries in the United States under the South Asia Cooperative Acquisition Program (SACAP). Before joining LC, Mr. Butani worked with the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) for about 10 years as a Copy Editor and incharge for production of their research reports.
